Hello and welcome to our Summer Update, bringing you the latest news on activities being undertaken by Kirk Ella and West Ella Parish Council.
Preparations for Christmas Already Underway
Although we’re in the height of summer, preparations are already underway for our annual Christmas lights celebration. Last year’s much-expanded event was very well received by residents, and we are aiming to replicate its success this year—with a few thoughtful changes and additions that we believe will enhance the experience even further. Keep an eye out for more details in the coming months.
New Defibrillators for the Parish
We are pleased to announce that Graham Civil Engineering, the company currently undertaking major works on the A164, has generously donated two defibrillators for use within our parish. Our plan is to locate one in West Ella, once a suitable location is agreed, and the other on the new West Hill development.
Local Improvements
We are continuing to make improvements to the parish, including:
- Refurbishment of notice boards
- Cleaning and updating of local history information boards located throughout the village
Speeding – A Common Concern
Speeding traffic remains one of the most frequent concerns raised by residents. While it can be a difficult issue to manage, we are still keen to recruit and train volunteers to take part in Community Speed Watch activities. We hope this will move forward soon and bring about some meaningful improvements.
Welcome to New Council Members
Over the past few months, we have co-opted two new members to the Parish Council:
Sharon Milner and Liz Skipsey
We are pleased to welcome them both to the team.
In Memory of Former Councillor Stan Raymond
Finally, we share the sad news that former Councillor Stan Raymond passed away suddenly in July. Stan served the Parish Council for over 20 years and was especially instrumental in the designation and installation of blue plaques on historic buildings throughout the village. He was also a dedicated supporter of the Parish Council’s annual Remembrance Sunday commemorations, honouring those who gave their lives in service.
We send our sincere condolences and best wishes to Stan’s widow, Margaret, at this difficult time.
